Social scientists have shown that interactions across group lines can help reduce prejudice and bullying and improve intergrouup relations. When people interact with those who are different from themselves, biases and misperceptions cad fall away.
Informal surveys conducted by MixItUp show that at least half of students describe their schools as "quick to put people into categories." 40% admit that they have rejected someone from another group, and 70% name the cafeteria as the school setting where social boundaries are drawn most clearly.
