Assignments

Here's "what's up" in 4th grade...

*Daily Homework will not be posted on this site. At the end of the school day we review the homework board and together we write in our planners. This is your child's responsibility.

Math- We will be starting the school year with place value, as well as addition and subtraction through the thousand period. My hope is to move onto multiplication as soon as we can. Starting to review multiplication facts now will help greatly! In 4th grade, most of the content is based on multiplication facts.

Reading- Students will receive instruction through whole group lessons and in small group settings. During small group instruction, students are grouped based on personal needs.

Spelling- Spelling lists are correlated to the story we are reading as a whole group.  I try to keep spelling homework consistent as best I can. Most weeks should look like this...

Monday- Workbook page

Tuesday- Activity

Wednesday- ABC order or other activities from 35 Point Activity sheet *Wednesday's homework completion is the student's "ticket" to play the spelling game on Thursday*

Thursday- Study for Friday's spelling test

English/Writing Workshop- Grammar concepts will be taught and incorporated into writing projects.

Science- We will start with exploring the scientific method and how to become scientists ourselves!Next we will be exploring magnetism and electric circuits. We are learning the "ins and outs" of how circuits are created to run mini light bulbs and motors. Students will learn how to create circuits to run a single bulb and multiple bulbs at the same time, as well as create switches, all by using the the same "special" tools and techniques real electricians use. Look at my "Helpful Links" page and explore the website linked to this kit!

We will do various experiments to learn concepts and skills through a hands-on approach. Please reinforce study habits. Students will be working on studyguides to help learn the content outside of the classroom. Information can also be found in your child's science journal.

These tools can always be found in your child's science folder. A Science Journal will also be coming home periodically for students to review as well. We are learning how scientist use trial and error in their daily record keeping to come to conclusions.

Social Studies- Please see Mrs.Webb's homepage for social studies information.
